Mediation Month 2025 : a festive edition packed with encounters

Last updated: 1 Sep 2025

From 15 September to 10 October 2025, the Federal Mediation Commission celebrated 20 years of mediation in Belgium with an exceptional edition of the Mediation Month. For nearly a month, more than 170 initiatives were proposed throughout the country, bringing together nearly 1,650 participants around a variety of topics.

National mobilisation

  • Eighty-seven local partners took part in the event, organizing almost 175 initiatives including conferences, workshops, training sessions and round tables over the first three weeks.
  • The topics covered included family mediation, corporate mediation, mediation in the construction sector and public authorities, as well as cross-disciplinary issues such as mediation in schools, hospitals and at the end of life.
  • We achieved over 10 million impressions in the press, as well as 25 mentions in several media.

A final week organized by the FMC

The final week, from 6 to 10 October, was run entirely by the Federal Mediation Commission. It enabled to :

  • Summarize the exchanges from the previous weeks through thematic overviews.
  • Celebrate the FMC's 20th anniversary with a central day on 9 October, dedicated to reflection and encounters.
  • Open the European dialogue on mediation on 10 October, exploring practices in other countries and prospects for cooperation.

A dynamic in motion

Inspired by the year of the snake in Chinese astrology, this year's edition was placed under the sign of renewal and reaffirmed the place of mediation as a sustainable, adaptable and humane tool in dispute resolution.
